La Rochelle, nicknamed the Ocean Gateway, has hosted its marathon at the end of each year since 1991. This marathon was born under the impetus of Serge Vigot, who turned this race into a true institution. The event has more than thirty editions under its belt and a wealth of experience, making it one of the biggest marathons in France, with nearly 10,000 participants. Everything is put in place during this competition so that participants are immersed in a unique festive atmosphere that combines the pillars of the marathon with the city’s traditions.
When it comes to tradition, the first point is the course. It winds through the city’s most beautiful landmarks. The start is given in the legendary Old Port, the beating heart of La Rochelle. Runners continue on toward the Aquarium, one of the largest in Europe! Finally, the brave will run along the sea and catch sight of Place Verdun as well as the Porte Dauphine before finishing at the majestic Towers of La Rochelle, standing opposite the Atlantic.
